“I think of my main body of work as an Allegory of Life and Death told in an unconventional and deliberately obfuscated way. Each individual work is a moment of a vague narrative, that appeals to different, and hopefully specific, aspects of what it is to exist as a human.

I feel that my work is a desperate reminder of the reality of nature. In both the idea that art can be valid on its own terms, in the way nature itself is valid, as well as in the reminder of the madness and complexity of the human experience.

I want to sensitize my viewers to the subtlety and Intentionality of Art making; From the smallest visual decisions and materials, to the conceptual identity of the work. And in that process, sensitize my viewers to see beauty. Beauty in the commonplace and the ugly. To see if I can make people appreciate, as I do, the vast and intricate world of information that is only revealed through critical examination.

I am looking to shock people out of themselves with the the beauty and sincerity of my work, then using these frameworks, I feel that I can create opportunity to express these certain qualities of Life. ”

Alex was born in California, the first son of two animators. They worked on many of the animated movies that shaped Alex’s childhood. He dreamed to be an animator like his parents. Throughout Elementary and Middle school Alex made drawings, but his first serious decision towards being an artist was upon applying to an Art High school called LACHSA.

At LACHSA, Alex spent half of his school days in arts classes. He took 2d and 3d animation classes hoping to follow in his parents footsteps, but he found his true calling in his painting classes.

With the new goal of making a career in fine art, Alex briefly attended the SMFA in Boston, before graduating from Art Center College of Design with distinction. During his time at art center, Alex found himself re-applied to fine art while he developed a passion for illustration.

A couple of years ago, Alex realized that he had developed an allergy to the lindseed oil, the main ingredient in oil painting. He has since been forced into working with other mediums.

He is currently a teacher at ArtCenter as well as a freelance illustrator and fine artist.
